The Coos County Historical Society was founded in November of 1891 and is one of the oldest continuously operating local historical societies in the state of Oregon. The Society operated a museum for ten years in Coquille prior to moving to our current North Bend location in 1958. You will find the Coos Historical and Maritime Museum just off Highway 101 in North Bend, Oregon at the north end of town near Simpson Park and the Visitor Information Center.

The theme of our museum is "Tidewater Highways". Museum hours are 10 am to 4 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, except for major holidays. Admission for CCHS members is FREE. Non-member admission price is $2 for patrons ages 12 and older. The museum also has a gift store where patrons may purchase a wide variety of books on local history, historic toys, postcards and other items of coastal and historical interest. Remember: CCHS members receive 10% off their gift store purchases! Click on links at the left to see more about our exhibits, store, and membership.

CURRENT EVENTS! CURRENT EVENTS!

TWO exhibits open February 9th! One is called "Pioneer Living". Peek into the window of a pioneer cabin to see what life was like in Coos County between 1890 and 1910. The other new exhibit is called "Coal & Timber, Rail & Water: The Forces that Shaped Coos County". Make your way through a coal mine while examing the economic, environmental, and social impact the coal and timber industries have had on our area.

Come see "Modern Medicine: Health and How to Get It". Learn about early South Coast doctors and see the interesting tools of their trade. This exhibit has been sponsored with a generous donation by the BAY CLINIC. (see photo above)
