Technical Assistance Program offers technical support to
heritage-based nonprofits on the southern Oregon coast. Through a contract with
the Oregon Heritage Commission
, the Coos Historical & Maritime Museum provides museum and preservation support, from providing
instruction on cataloging and handling artifacts.
The Oregon Heritage Commission offers many other opportunities for Technical Assistance, available here

on museum topics, such as collections management or deaccessioning, are
offered as part of the Technical Assistance Program. Beginning in January 2014, CCHS will offer a class in textile storage, continuing with Photograph storage, organization, and digitization.
In addition to the classes we also propose to create a Conservation Tools Library. Many heritage organizations do not have the resources to purchase much needed tools used to ensure their collections are stored or exhibited in safe environments. These organizations are using ill-suited equipment or taking measures to better control their environments with no means of testing if or how those measures are working. Through funding provided by the Regional Heritage Technical Assistance Program, we would purchase a Museum Vac Vacuum with dial suction control and accessories, LUTRON LM-8000 (4 in 1 anemometer, hygrometer, thermometer, light meter), and UV Light Meter UVA/B. These tools, along with others already owned by CCHS, will be made available on a check out basis
In addition, we are currently creating a Conservation Tools Library, giving other heritage organizations access to 1) an adjustable vacuum, 2) a hygromether/thermomete, and 3) a UVA/B light meter. Please check back to see when these become available.
