As you come to the museum entrance you will notice...
...the famous "Merci Train" boxcar that was loaded with gifts to Oregon from a grateful France following WWII. An exhibit about the boxcar, including some of the actual gifts assigned to Coos County, are located inside the museum. For more information about the boxcard, click on this link:

...you will also see a steam donkey displayed outside. Steam donkeys were used to haul felled logs to landings in the Coos County forests in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
To the left of the entrance is a small plaque, a tribute to veterans, showing that Highway 101 has been designated as a "Blue Star Memorial By-Way."
