MISSION
Our mission is to enhance the intellectual, civic, and cultural life of Oregon’s South Coast by facilitating awareness of local history. Our special emphasis is on the important impact which the ocean, bays, rivers, and sloughs have had on the people who have lived on the South Coast.
We do this by:
1) Preserving and facilitating access to artifacts, images, and information that
illuminate local history.
2) Developing school programs that foster appreciation of our heritage.
3) Providing community programs and activities that encourage widespread
understanding of our county and region.
Please see other pages of this website for a description of research services, educational programs, and museum store.

ORGANIZATION
The Coos County Historical Society, founded in 1891 is a private, not-for-profit organization supported entirely by memberships, donations, admission fees, bookstore income, and grants. We are recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service; donations to the organization are tax-deductible.
We implement our mission through professional staff under the direction of a dedicated Board of Trustees with the invaluable assistance of literally hundreds of volunteers. |
